| Hi, I have been mannually programming MIDI songs (using the mouse) through Digital Orchestrator Plus. I don't play any instrument, but I would like to start performming some of my songs. I'd like some advice on a portable player that I can load MIDI tracks into and connect to a sound system, or speakers. Thanks.

There aren't that many choices these days. For some reason MIDI is on the bottom of the to-do-list for manufacturers. One of the current models the Yamaha qy100 is a bit pricey. You can also try to grab a used Roland PMA-5 on ebay.
I would personally recommend buying an inexpensive used laptop, load the sequencer program and a good soft-synth into it and you have the most powerful portable MIDI player for less than what you would pay for the Yamaha or other similar new unit.

| Hi there just read your 2007 advice on buying a portable midi player where you suggested using a laptop I have been using a Roland MC 80 for a few years now and for some reason it can stop in the middle of a song at any time and come back in with kind of a drum frenzy!! its very disconcerting to play to so for this reason I was wondering - A- Would it be a better idea to record my midis as audio files and play them back on a laptop? B- Do you know what causes the kind of mid song stopages I`m talking about ? and if so is it something fixable within that particular midi? C- with converting to a laptop what kind of midi software would you recomend and what about soundcard? I realise this is a lot of questions unfortunately though I haven`t found anyone who seems to understand my problem which I desperately want to rectify any help you have would be greatly appreciated Sincerly Jerome
