Interesting question, I couldn't find anything in the digidesign factory certification books or the digidesign website faq's. I think pro tools I/O setup would have a problem with that unless it can recognize the two M-boxes as seperate and name them accordingly in the I/O setup and inputs, naming them M-box 1's inputs 1 and 2 and M-box 2's inputs 1 and 2.
I don't think it would work because of the issue of defining wich M-box would be designated as the main outs, as well as the input issue, I think pro tools I/O setup would choke on that.
Possibly wordclock master designation issues too.

MIDI Timecode,  my instructor does it with his at home.  make one the master, and the other a slave.  I'm not exavtly sure where that is in protools cause i haven't worked with Mbox.

My teacher uses an MBox 2.  I have class tomorrow I'll ask him more in depth.  but this Is midi time code.  I think if your computer recogonizes the to mboxs that you will be able to record by setting the devices up to read midi time code.  But yeah I'm not an expert on the subject at all.   I'll get back to you to more with some more info about it!

Alright I know how to do it, but on the way to the computer something drained out of my short memory so I'll explain as much as i can with out Protools in front of me.  Under setup menu you should see MIDI Beat clock. I think that will set your midi in and out to send basicly a midi click track to out board gear.  then go into Setup>Preipherails(spelling, sorry)  and on the first tab of the window,  agian I lost the name,  but on the first little section of that tab there is a drop down box, click on that and there is a setting called "MTC" Something.  then just go in under setup> I/O setup> input tab,  and make sure protools is recoginizing two mbox 2's.   and about my teacher doing this, he doesn't use it, he just explained that this is the way to set up out board gear going into a computer in protools!  little mis understanding sorry.  but i hope that helps,  if you can give me a screen shot or a list of tabs i could help you out with the names. tell me if this makes any since

Setup> MIDI> MIDI Beatclock

Setup> Prepherials> Sync. and then MTC Clock

Thats how to set it up to link timing wise. Hope that helps and tell me if it works
