Every midi file that I have been able to listen (took me a long time to figure out how to get ANY sounds at all from midi files) has NOT had the singer input. i.e. there are no songs with words...am I asking a dumb question???

MIDI files do not contain audio, so there could not possibly be a singer contained in the files.
A MIDI file is a representation of instrument keypresses sequenced by time.
For example, a simplistic view of what a midi file says:
-------------------------
On Channel one - map these presses to Instrument 001 (normally a piano)
At 00:00:15 push down the middle-C button
At 00:00:16 push down the middle E-button
At 00:00:17 push down the middle-G button
At 00:01:15 release the middle-C button
At 00:01:15 release the middle-E button
At 00:01:15 release the middle-G button
etc...
and so on for (usually) up to 16 channels
-------------------------
There's a bit more to it, but you get the point...it's instrumentation data, not audio. Your computer 'plays' MIDI files through a MIDI sequencer built into either your sound card, or the computer operating system. It has standard instrument samples it uses to play the notes given in the MIDI file.
I hope this answers your question.
