I want to start my own home studio so I can make an album. I have learned that the best type of home studio for me is a midi studio because it is cheaper then the other ways of making music. I want to buy a computer for this purpose that is not too expensive. I want to purchuse it from the dell.co.uk. What computer do you think is good for this purpose? What mic is good to buy that is able to record crystal clear vocals digitally? I used a bad microphone and recorded my voice on the windows media player and when I played it back I heard a buzing noise accompanied with the vocals.

Hello all, I'm new to all this, but I just found a great MIDI to Friday's I'm in Love, by The Cure, and I'm wondering if there's a program that will allow me to open up the song and let me view the separate tracks for each instrument? Is all that information contained within the MIDI, or is it a separate file, that then gets condensed into the MIDI?

Removable flash digital recording device suggestions?

Hi all. :)

I have some MIDI equipment with audio connected up to a mixer in one room. I have PCs located in other locations on which I want to edit the music I develop on the MIDI equipment. I need some method for recording (digitally) the MIDI music and then transporting this music onto one of the PCs for editing. :w00t:

It seems to me that a flash-media compatible digital recording device would be ideal for this.

I've looked at the M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 but would appreciate some additional advice on what other folks may be using for this kind of need. ;)

Any suggestions?

I am a Church musician with music knowledge but little electronic know-how. I am currently using the Finale 2006 songwriting program (which is a excellent composition program by the way), but my HP Pavilion uses a realtek 97 soundcard which is tinny at best. I'm not a gamer and I need a soundcard which has excellent instrument sound reproduction characteristics for making in-house background cd's of original compositions. If you can make recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi.
I just found this site by doing a google search and just joined up.

I have request and hope someone can help me but it's a bit out of left field.

Im not an expert on things 'MIDI' so please forgive my ignorance.
Basically i want to use a music program which let's me use my qwerty keyboard as an input device for playing music.

I know there are many simple free and comercial programs that let me do this and i have one called 'happyEO'. The program i have allows me to assign the notes to almost whatever key i like but not completely. Also i have to hold down shift or space in order to play a sharp or flat.

I want a program that let's me assign the notes to absolutly any key i like, 'including the F 1-12 keys. Also i want to be able to assign the sharps/flats to keys and not have to hold down an activator such as the space or shift key in order to sharpen or flatten a note.

I don't need to do anything else with the program except assign the keys and be able to play music with my keyboard. It would be nice if it had various instrument sounds but even if it's just one sound would be acceptable for my purposes.

The total freedom in key assignments is a key requirement though.

Sorry if this forum isn't the place to ask such advice but i couldn't find such a flexible program by searching.

Hooray for the new server!

Well we have officially moved to our new server ahead of the full site launch a few weeks out. Here is the stats on the new server:

- Dual Proc / Dual Core Xeon 3.0ghz ( with HT , that's 8 procs )
- 4 gig DDR2 RAM
- 400 GIG SAS ( serial attached SCSI ) HD space in Raid zero

Our old server is now the backup server in case anything hit's the fan... that servers stats are :

- P3 .30ghz
- 2 gig DDR2 RAM
- 400gig's SATA HD space in Raid 0

Both servers are 1U rackmount machines housed in a commercial datacenter in Seattle, Wa... can you tell I am a hardware freak?

Well we are working hard to get the full website ready for launch... we just got our first drop of fantastic content and are just finishing up the bells ands whistles. Remember we are trying to build a site that not only provides a easy to use interface to purchase pro midi files.. but also provides tons of info on pro music creation in general, patches/firmware updates for pro hardware, community forums, etc....

We will be looking for a few beta testers to give the new site a test pass starting in about 1 - 2 weeks. Overall we are looking for your honest opinion, suggestions , etc. Please note that we actually need you to work at this.. it's not just free play time :)

So if your interested.. go ahead and PM me through this board or email me at jeff@hoofjaw.com. ... even if you aren't interested in beta testing but would like to provide feedback, suggestions, feature ideas... or maybe you want to partner with us to sell your midi files... you can always pm / email myself or Dave.

I wanted to give you a update on the full site rollout.... we are still on sched to start a test pass next week which would mean we could launch the main site with content in late October. We have been working on the site since August 1st.. so the dev time will be about 3 months to the first launch.

We aslo recieved our first drop of content and it's fantastic stuff, 3000+ midi files from one of the web's top providers.. in addition we have setup awesome partnership deals with some major domains... more on that later :)

Dave and I are working hard to deliver a great community based site where people can discuss proffsional music creation as well as aquire midi's. If you have any suggetions or comments please let us know... [b]seriously this is just as much your site as it is ours.[/b]

If your interested in beta testing let me know... we will need a new set of eyes on it.

Welcome to HoofJaw - the newest MIDI and professional/consumer audio resource on the web. We're excited to have just launched our site, and we appreciate you "early members" getting involved.

The forums you see here are just a small part of the grander site that we'll be fully launching later this year. The full HoofJaw.com will have professional MIDI files for sale, a marketplace for folks to share their own MIDI creations, resources for pro and consumer audio and audio files for sale of all the MIDI tracks on the site. The latter will be great for folks who don't have a rack full of MIDI gear BUT do perform or need backing tracks.
