Your computer 'plays' MIDI files through a MIDI sequencer built into either your sound card, or the computer operating system. It has standard instrument samples it uses to play the notes given in the MIDI file.

I hope this answers your question.

does midi edits out the singer?

Every midi file that I have been able to listen (took me a long time to figure out how to get ANY sounds at all from midi files) has NOT had the singer input. i.e. there are no songs with words...am I asking a dumb question???
