Hey Heeb - that's a great idea. We're just forums now, but soon we'll be launching our full site with news, downloads, resources, etc... for audio enthusiasts. The main front page of the site actually has a list of the most recent posts in the forums. Good call. :)

And maybe it's also a good idea to have a forum for plugin developers? With topics about the various techniques (VST, VSTi, DX, etc.) and various programming languages (like Delphi, C++, etc) and development tools (like SynthEdit, etc.).

I agree the main page is very daunting (?) and if possible could really do with condensing as i wasnt aware there was anymore than the software forums at first.

This site may be the exception to the rule...and if there's no obvious way to move threads around, then I can understand why you would want to start big ;)

Also, I've never really participated in very technical forums such as this, most forums I've belonged to were game oriented or generalized chat oriented. I do like the place, I was just a little overwhelmed when I first arrived.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able ot make myself at home though.

I like the organization of the board. It's good to have lots of sub forums so if you want info on say Pro Tools HD you can get it without having to trawl through the entire Digidesign forum :)

Thanks for the mail and feedback. I was the guy who sent you the MySpace message - I definitely didn't want you to mistake the message for spam, and was just trying to reach a few people who had common interests and might find this site useful. Glad you took it that way!

As for your suggestion - this is definitely a big forum. Certainly our goal is to be a one-stop-shop when it comes to music production and if we're successful, the forum will be large.

The problem is, there isn't a real easy way to move forum threads around that I can find - it seems like if you write a post that looks like it should be in a separate sub-forum then we can't just easily move that post into a newly created sub-forum. So, we'd end up with posts all over the place.

To combat that, I created a bunch of different fora and hoped that as I saw needs that weren't fulfilled I could stay on top of that by creating new sub-forums as necessary. Pretty much the opposite of your suggestion.

So - I'm interested in what others think. Better to start small and get bigger with some spillage of topics as we grow, or better to be big from the get-go, but keeping organized?

I came here because of an invite I was sent via myspace, which was well done by the way, very non-intrusive and non-spammy...I actually welcomed the invite instead of got mad about it.

My first impression of the forum was *whoah, big!!!*

Thats almost a bad thing...I almost made a similar mistake with my own mapping forum...in the early stages of developing a web-based community, you have to start small and expand as members require it. You definitely have a case of big forum syndrome.

I'm not sure how long the sites been active, but since you have soooo many forums and subforums its very hard to find the right place to post a topic which can often be discouraging to a budding online community. As more and more people post here, that problem will go away because there will be such a wealth of information and archive posts...but to start off you shoudl probably shrink the board a LOT.

Feel free of course to ignore this feedback, it may prove wrong...but I'm going by a lot of the feedback I got for my own online community I started. Thanks for providing the service!
