| I purchased a MIDI program, Cakewalk. I am a piano player and want to record some of my own music. I understand the basics of recording to a point but am confused. When I record from my keyboard into the pc sound card in MIDI or digital audio, I only get the basic Grand Piano sound. why? I want to record the other sounds i.e voice, choir, etc, etc. I do not know how to arm different tracks from my Yamaha keyboard. Actually I am looking for a basic , comprehensive text book showing how to use MIDI and audio. I have purchased SONOR book, etc. and it is all confusing to me. I emaile Cakewalk and ask for some directions but never get basic answers. Is it possible to comvert MIDI, MP3 or wav downloaded songs to SMF format? How do you get the different sounds that I get on the keyboard to record? Is there a basic manual someone can recommend? Thank you. Mr King

| I can help but will need some more info. real simple an easy, what type of PC do you have and what type of sound card do you use? and untill you give me that information I can give you some basic background on MIDI and the digital audio. If you want the sounds from your keyboard then you will come straight out of the keyboard. now if you want to use the sounds that came with cake walk then you will use MIDI and use the MIDI port on your keyboard and soundcard. when you get back with me about your computer and sound card i'll help you out with the rest. and for a manual no money needed(unless you want to send some for me check this one out http://www.borg.com/~jglatt/tutr/miditutr.htm it should be the one for you! it says it right at the top "This page contains documents that explain MIDI and audio concepts in non-technical terminology. It also contains information that may be useful to musicians using MIDI-based products. " can't get any easier than that
